"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
A major accident on the Satragachi Bridge left at least seven people injured on Monday after two buses collided head-on during an overtaking attempt. The injured passengers were immediately taken to Howrah District Hospital by ambulance. The crash caused panic among commuters as both vehicles were severely damaged.
According to police sources, a K11 route bus was travelling from Kolkata toward the National Highway when it attempted to overtake. At the same time, a passenger bus from Digha was heading toward Howrah. The risky manoeuvre resulted in a direct collision between the two buses, leaving several passengers trapped and the bridge blocked.
Traffic on the Satragachi Bridge came to a halt following the accident, leading to a temporary jam during peak hours. Police later towed both buses away and restored normal movement after clearing the debris.
Officers arrested the driver of one bus, while the driver of the other fled the scene and is currently absconding. An investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and assess whether speeding or negligence contributed to the crash.
